Interesting funicular to the top of the Hohensalzburg Festival.
In April 1892, the construction of the funicular to Hohensalzburg Fortress, which was then used as a barracks, began. The operating company was the Salzburg Railway and Tramway Company (SETG).
Until 1959, the FestungsBahn was operated as a "Tröpferlbahn" with water from the Almkanal, today the funicular is electrically operated. In less than a minute, the wagons with 55 people are at the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Already during the ride you can have a breathtaking view of the city of Salzburg and when you arrive at the top, the view over the roofs of the city invites you to marvel.

With ease on the fortress Hohensalzburg, in winter as in summer! The modern funicular takes you from the heart of Salzburg's Old Town in just 54 seconds directly to the striking landmark of the city. The panorama is unique and offers fantastic views of the city of Salzburg and the mountains. The fortress railway runs every ten minutes.

The oldest funicular in Austria (1892).
        Base station 437 m, mountain station 536 m, railway length 200 m.
