<< Pieta >>
Location: Am Dam / Marwick - Construction: March 23, 1985
"In memory of the victims and destruction of the Second World War, this memorial was inaugurated forty years after the Allies crossed the Rhine. In March 1945, a British unit crossed the Rhine, took the town and built a temporary military bridge (Bailey Bridge). The Pieta comes from the Catholic church in Bislich (St. John's Church), for which it was created at the end of the 19th century. It was removed from the church during renovation work.
40 years after the Allies crossed the Rhine, a memorial was inaugurated on the remains of the driveway to the third Bailey Bridge from 1945 in Bislich. The memorial was created on the initiative of the Bislich local history association.
