The white gold of Colonnata is not just the marble: the town that dedicated a splendid monument by Sparapani to the quarrymen is also renowned for the production of lard. A poor food, with which the humblest workers once fed, today it has become a delicacy: here it is still prepared according to tradition and left to mature in the hand-dug marble basins, which guarantee impermeability and transpiration.

Colonnata was founded around 40 AD to mine marble, because Carrara was very popular back then.
It is located in the Apuan Alps at 532 m altitude.
Today it is also known for its lardo, which is also known as the best bacon in Italy.

An absolutely sleepy village surrounded by the wealth of the Carrara marble quarries. The adjacent money does not necessarily have to help a region in the immediate vicinity, can be seen here. The people are still very friendly :)
