From the war memorial, which is reminiscent of a small temple complex and is therefore also called "Tempelchen" by the locals, you have a beautiful view of the town of Schleiden, the neighboring Ruppenberg and the Oleftal valley.

The "Eifel-Blick" are an initiative of the German-Belgian Nature Park
and from Rureifel-Tourismus e. V .. There are particularly beautiful viewpoints in the Eifel.

From 1910, traditional soldiers' associations such as the Kreiskriegerverband had tried to commemorate the victims of the Reich Unification Wars in 1864, 1866 and 1870/71. The idea was not primarily to commemorate the victims. Rather, it was about creating a place of heroism typical of the time with a clearly militaristic and nationalistic undertone. Such war memorials were created all over the country. This stone hymn to heroic death was planned by the Düsseldorf government architect Ernst Stahl in an antique-style form of a small temple complex. The outer shape probably also gave rise to the popular name as "temple". Construction began in 1914, but the completion was delayed until the final inauguration in August 1931. After extensive renovation with great civic engagement in the years 2011 to 2013, the platforms serve as a viewpoint over the city and the valleys of Olef and Dieffenbach.
