An enchanting mountain lake: 56 hectares and up to 36 meters deep, it is located at 883 meters above sea level high above Scheffau in the middle of the Wilder Kaiser nature reserve. A hike around Lake Hintersteiner offers a deep view.

On the south bank of the path rises a bit and offers beautiful views of the turquoise blue waters of the crystal-clear mountain lake. The northern shore of the lake is accessible to everyone thanks to a driveway.

Here is also a beach, whose experience is in its naturalness. To be the most beautiful and cleanest natural lake in Tyrol is enough for the Hintersteinersee in Scheffau.

Even in winter, the lake can be wonderfully and easily circumnavigate. Firm footwear provided.
Armed with a thermos flask full of mulled wine or apple punch and maybe a few delicious cookies, you can experience and enjoy this wonderfully beautiful spot of nature with all your senses ...

This part of the lake circuit leads uphill and downhill along a forest path, always along the lake and the rocks. There is always a beautiful view of the Wilder Kaiser and its reflection in the lake.

On this side of the lake it is depending on the time of day shady, but you are swimming here undisturbed and can comfortably stretch your hammock between the trees.

The path is much nicer to walk than the road on the other side of the lake. The lake is beautiful.
With the stroller you have to go up / down 2x a few steps.

    Also worthwhile in winter.

The lake from the other side. You should be sure-footed as it is a hiking trail.

You should definitely spend a day at this beautiful lake. The path on the south bank is highly recommended for a short walk and then you should visit the seaside resort. As the number of parking spaces is limited, please arrive by public transport or by bike.
