The former working palace of the queens on the beautiful Lange Voorhout is now a museum and houses the permanent exhibition of the Netherlands' most famous graphic artist, M.C. Escher. Escher (1898-1972) is a master at drawing unreal situations and knows how to captivate everyone with his wonderful world. In his work he makes water flow up, birds turn into fish and men walk up and down the same stairs endlessly. With one hundred and thirty works, the Escher Museum in the Palace houses almost all pieces by the world-famous Dutch artist M.C. Escher (1898-1972). The highlight is the 7 meter long Metamorphosis III. This enormous woodcut and its special arrangement allows the viewer to experience the Escher link between eternity and infinity, through which time and space are united into an organic whole.

In the NRC of 23 February 2007, director Van Krimpen says: "I have neatly put on a small sign at the entrance of the Escher Museum that some of the works on display are not original. Yes, I'm not going to nail the facade. that it is full of facsimiles here! (…) We do exactly what Escher wants. The more reproductions, the better. " (Only ten of the 160 works on display are real.)
