The Bois de la Paix (Forest of Peace), a forest typical of the Bastogne Plateau, encompasses three hectares and a total of 4,000 trees. It was created to commemorate the Battle of the Bulge, which once took place here. From a bird's eye view, the forest depicts the UNICEF emblem—a mother and child, a symbol of universal tenderness. At the foot of each tree, an American veteran placed a plaque bearing his name and unit upon his return to Bastogne. A beautiful symbol.

The Forest of Peace in Bastogne, which was created on the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes, contains 4,000 trees. The trees are dedicated to the American veterans who fought in the Ardennes, to the Belgian fighters and to the military and civilian victims of the winter 1944-1945. It was an emotional moment when many veterans saw each other again in 1994 after all that time. Every veteran could choose from various tree species and each tree was given its own name. The trees are planted in such a way that the UNICEF emblem, the mother and child, can be seen from the air.
