The red and white striped lighthouse with a black conical base and a gallery around the lantern stands on a headland at the Barßel boat harbor. The boat harbor is located directly on the Soeste, the left source of the Jümme. It is a stylized replica of the "Roter Sand" lighthouse and was built in 1986 by the "Gute Fahrt" Barßelermoor-Barßel boatmen's association. It is one of the few real lighthouses in the inland. In the summer of 2014, the lighthouse was renovated and given a new coat of paint.
