According to legend, in 1725 a French rider had been chasing a girl over the Rappen rock in the Black Forest. The girl allegedly survived the jump over the rocks down to Brennersloch unharmed, but her pursuer is said to have fallen to her death.

Today a wooden votive plaque, which bears the year 1725, commemorates this occurrence on the rock. It was once supplemented by a cross and two carved wooden figures. However, in order to protect them from theft, these are now kept in the forestry office in Furtwangen.
