The approximately 250 m long pedestrian bridge to the city harbor has been a landmark of the port city of Sassnitz since 2007 and is also known as the “balcony with a sea view”. This bridge was designed as an access and connecting road between the city center and the Sassnitz city harbor.

The engineering firm Schlaich, Bergermann and Partner developed the design for the suspension bridge, whereby they had to take special topographical conditions into account. The difference in terrain between the city and the harbor is 22 meters and the chalk cliffs were not allowed to be subjected to high static or dynamic loads. In addition, there is an access road and a listed building along the bridge, so the only solution was to span this area without supports, so the decision was made to build a two-part bridge.

The curved bridge leads down to the harbor and offers a great view of the port of Sassnitz.
