Hiking

The name changed from “Abbey de la Paix” of the Lusignan, “Bella Paese” (Beautiful Peace) of the Venetians to the colloquial Bellapais. Originally founded by Augustinians, the monastery was also known as the “White Abbey” because of the white habit of the Premonstratensian canons.
The abbey was founded in 1205 after Saladin's conquest of Jerusalem in 1187.
