Michalská brána / Michael's Gate, Bratislava / Pressburg
The elegant onion-shaped roof of the Michael's Gate is one of the landmarks of the city of Bratislava.
Of the original four entrance gates of the city fortifications, only the northern Michalská Gate has survived. It was completed in the 14th century. It was named after the Gothic church of St. Michal, which was located in front of the fortress and was demolished in the 16th century due to the incursions of Turkish troops. Since its creation, it was expanded several times until it acquired its final appearance in the 18th century, shortly before almost all of the city fortifications were demolished.
Due to its high onion-shaped roof, the gate tower is one of the landmarks of the Old Town. The balcony offers a panoramic view of the Castle Hill, the roofs and towers of the city, and the villa district in the hills.

What looks like a church tower at the distance is a city gate on the edge of the old town.

The Michaelertor is the last remnant of the medieval city fortifications of Bratislava. It is also a landmark of the city with its onion-roof. The 51 meter high tower is part of the municipal museum and houses the weapons museum. The gate used to be the northern entrance to the city. The other three goals, the Weidritzer Tor, the Fischertor and the Lorenzertor, no longer exist.
