The building, which has housed the German Bundestag since 2000, was built in the years 1899–1904 in the neo-renaissance style. It was home to the manor house of the Kingdom of Prussia until 1918 and the State Council of the Free State of Prussia until 1933.

The Bundesrat building on Leipziger Strasse always catches your eye when you visit the Mall of Berlin on Leipziger Platz. The Bundesrat is the constitutional legislative chamber of the federal states. Before World War II, the ministries of the Third Reich and some embassies, like the Reich Chancellery, were located along Wilhelmstrasse, which crosses Leipziger Strasse. The Federal Council building was completed in 1904 as the Prussian Manor House. The architect was Friedrich Schulze-Kolbitz. The outer facade was built in the style of neoclassicism.
