The Reichenstein Ski Center has long been a lost place. The once popular winter sports area with several lifts, downhill runs, cross-country ski trails, and a summer toboggan run has been abandoned for 20 years.
The former valley station with a restaurant, ticket booth, technical rooms, and lift station can still be found. Several lift masts are also still scattered along the old slope.
The ski center opened in 1982 with six drag lifts and feeder lifts, the mountain inn in Stadlern, and the Bohemian Forest Hut in Waldhäuser. A summer toboggan run was added in 1984 to increase the attractiveness of the seasonal operation.
In 2005, the dream of a snowmaking system was to be realized, but it was never completed. The operating company had to file for bankruptcy in December 2005. The trigger was a defective steel cable on the drag lift, which the operators could no longer afford to repair. Although there was enough snow, the snowcat remained in the shed. The abrupt end had come.

There is a free hiking car park at the former ski center. Perfect starting point for tours.

Great starting point for hiking and bike tours, for example to the castle ruins to the Šumava tower or in the ironing room.
