The tower of the town church above Schwabach's old town can be seen from afar. The roots of the church go back well into the Middle Ages, presumably a simple church building already stood at this point in the first settlement on the Schwabach. It had to be expanded again and again, and new, larger churches were built. The town church, which bears the names of Saints John and Martin, was consecrated in its current form in 1495. The magnificent Gothic high altar, which is attributed to Veit Stoss and made the church famous far beyond Schwabach, is also more than five hundred years old.

This is what the mother of God of the smartphone generation looks like. The Madonna in jeans with a mobile phone on her belt stands casually in front of a gold-leaf satellite dish in the east choir of the town church - only a few meters away from the Marien Altar from 1475. The traditional motif of Mary with child meets the symbol of modern communication. The artist herself says of her work: "For many people, global communication is worth gold, but happiness is often close by."

The two-meter-high work of art by Susanne Rudolph from Langenburg near Crailsheim won the audience award as part of the Schwabacher Art Days 2007, which had the motto: "In the sign of gold".

The tower is accessible and characterizes the city silhouette from afar
