Einbecker Neustadt was fortified with a wall and moat around 1250. Shortly afterwards, the construction of the 2.2 km long ring-shaped city wall began. An even larger, outer city fortification was completed at the end of the 14th century. (...) The height of the city wall including parapet was 6 to 9 meters. The city wall was interrupted at intervals of 60 to 70 meters by 31 towers of different heights with a square, round or semicircular floor plan. The main arterial roads were secured by five gate towers: Tiedexer, Hullerser, Benser, Altendorfer and the Ostertor.
