Guided trip here was well worth it. Wow, ash was like walking on Mars. The sulphur small lingers, just opened for public the last 6 months I believe.

We visited the Tajogaite volcano on a guided tour. It's quite an experience to get so close to a volcano. We even saw smoke and steam rising (September 2025). I was absolutely thrilled with this tour and the impressions I gained.

Currently (December 2025), you may only enter the area around the new Tajogaite volcano on La Palma with certified guides. Toxic gases are still frequently released from the highly active volcanic area. A guided tour costs around €30 for a 3-hour hike. The tour is definitely worthwhile. You can experience, observe, and even touch the effects of volcanic power up close. You stand in awe before the enormous lava mountain of Tajogaite, its summit colored yellow, white, reddish, and black by various minerals. The force of the flowing magma has fractured the dome, forming a crater-like depression. The name, derived from the Guanche language, "Split Mountain," is fitting.

And faced with the power of this place, you realize the role we humans play.
