Parts of the Atlantic Wall of WWII and parts of the bunker merged with the landscape over time. There was a position here with 2 radar posts and the associated bunkers. Code name was RITA. They were part of the 4th Marine Radio Measurement Detachment. The east side of the complex was mined to protect against unwanted visitors.

The Atlantic Wall was a fortification and line of protection for the Germans in World War II. He went up from Holland to Denmark to Norway. it was supposed to prevent a multiple-front war. Here on Ameland there are two places that belong to the Atlantic Wall. The bunkers are planned to be exposed and made accessible again.
