  • The only mountain lake in the Allgäu high Alps with an island!

  • Absolutely foolish sight, the effort is worthwhile in any case!

  • it is essential to use good hiking shoes as the ascent and descent is very alpine

  • Beautiful tour. Quiet and untouched. There is always a lot to discover, and the Schrecksee is the perfect place to cool off after the ascent.

  • Very beautiful mountain lake with a great mountain panorama - ideally hike during the week outside of the holiday season, as the Schrecksee is otherwise unfortunately very crowded.

  • Very beautiful embedded lake - with an impressive backdrop around it. With a view from the Lahnertscharte, the lake looks like a big eye. For me one of the most beautiful mountain lakes. Recommendable.

  • A beautiful mountain lake embedded by the Knappenkopf, Kirchendach, Kastenkopf and Lahnerkopf ... all of them over 2000m high. Fantastic atmosphere at the lake with its island.

  • Once around the Schrecksee to see the whole area. Almost everyone stays with the island at the beginning and does not see the rest

  • A beautiful lake!
Unfortunately, you don't notice much of the landscape on the way up and down, because it's always very steep and you have to be careful where you step...

  • A fabulous place. I can't describe exactly what fascinates me so much, whether the location, the color, the shape or the island? I can't tell 🤔

  • The lake is beautifully situated and framed by some 2000s. Simply pretty there

  • 1800 meters in altitude, well worth the climb, beautiful lake

  • The ascent is worthwhile and is clearly exhausting, but it is also easy to walk.
We started in Hinterstein am Auele, where you can easily take the 50 bus towards Giebelhaus from Hinterstein.

  • The Schrecksee is a small high mountain lake in the Allgäu Alps and is therefore part of the Allgäu High Alps nature reserve.

  • A real postcard motif. Since the expansion of the way almost 10 years ago, the ascent is no longer particularly dangerous, even if it is still steep and partly scree.
