Progress was made in Prussia in the Park Sanssouci: When Charlottenhof was designed by Peter von Lenné, the first Prussian steam engine kept the water of the machine pond named after it in motion. If it has frozen properly in winter, the pond is even used by the Potsdamers for skating - even if this is not officially allowed.
