The Schulenberg Tunnel is a 195 m long former railway tunnel in Hattingen in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built in 1883, in 1884 the railway line leading through it, the so-called Kohlenbahn, was opened from Wuppertal to Hattingen. The passenger traffic was stopped in 1979, 1984 also the goods traffic. On September 23, 2008, he was released after the completion of the rebuilding of the railway line started in 1989 again for cycling. At night, he is conceptually closed, but the post of "key officer" is currently vacant, leaving him open indefinitely at night. The tunnel is part of the newly built Von-Ruhr-to-Ruhr cycle path.

If you come from the north (Ruhr / Hattingen) this is the first of many other tunnels, if you drive to the northern railway line to Wuppertal.

If you drive from the Ruhr (Hattingen) direction Sprockhövel, this is the first tunnel to pass through. If you like tunnels, you should continue in the direction of Wuppertal (Nordbahntrasse), there are many more.

The tunnel was built in 1883, 1884, the leading through him railway Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen, the so-called coal railway from Wuppertal to Hattingen was opened. The passenger traffic was stopped in 1979, 1984 also the goods traffic. On September 23, 2008, he was released after the completion of the rebuilding of the railway line started in 1989 again for cycling. At night it should remain closed to the original concept, but the post of key officer was not filled. As an important transport connection, the tunnel is open all year round and also at night. Exceptions to this have hitherto only been due to art events or icicles forming in tunnels (Easter 2013).The tunnel is part of the newly built Von-Ruhr-to-Ruhr cycle path and the football route NRW.The southeast entrance is located on the Bredenscheider Straße along the Sprockhöveler stream. The northwestern end is located east of the green road in Hattingen.

It's great to drive through. In the Sauerland, there is still the bats tunnel. Length 650 m. Was already a highlight for us.

Please only drive with light. It is very dark.

Although this tunnel and many others are illuminated, you should have light as a cyclist and as a jogger, if you drive through.
