The Hofgarten was first mentioned in 1489. Due to the increasing use as building land since the 18th century, when the houses in Wilhelmstraße were built, this extensive kitchen and pleasure garden adjacent to the palace grounds quickly lost its size and splendor. The remainder with the richly decorated iron gate and the orangery now gives the modern beer garden a touch of feudal atmosphere.
