In 1381, Sweder van Abcoude, lord of Gaasbeek, elevated the local chapel to a parish church.
The choir is probably the remnant of the first chapel from the 13th century. The nave was added in the 15th century. The church was heavily damaged by war at the end of the 17th century. The side aisles and the interior decoration in baroque and roccoco date from the 18th century. Above the door is the coat of arms of the Scockart family, lords of Gaasbeek in the 18th century. The cemetery contains some beautiful funerary monuments.
