The Roberner See has existed in its current form since 1966. However, the artificially created water is much older. Originally it goes back to a gushing pond that was used to raft wood. The wood from Robern could be transported across the Seebach through the Seebach valley to Neckargerach and the Neckar. Due to the boggy silting up areas, it can be assumed that the dammed up water area was previously much larger. Remains of old dams further down the valley indicate further ponds, the water of which was needed for the rafting in the lower Seebachtal.
