The Pioneer Cliff is located near the Pioneer Tunnel. The Pioneer Tunnel was struck through the rock from 14 to 19 May 1900 as part of an exercise by the 2nd Company of the Magdeburg Pioneer Battalion No. 4. In parts, the tunnel was driven in mining form.
