Stickhausen Castle was built in the 15th century to ward off enemy attacks from Oldenburg. Today only the fortified tower, in which there is a local museum, is preserved. Here you can marvel at, among other things, an over one hundred year old collection of over 180 native bird species. In June there is an East Frisian garden market once a year in the Burggarten.

One day the Americans had the faxes, time after time, to be attacked and robbed by the predatory East Frisians. Time and again, East Frisian hordes invaded Ammerland from the west. With devastating consequences. So they, the Ammerlanders, began to build a series of fortified castles along their western border so that the misery might come to an end. And - almost a thousand - it also succeeded, which is why we find the Friesian monument in Fikensholterfeld today in memory of the final victory of the Ammerlanders over the final ringlings.

In any case, Stickhausen Castle is one of the castles that was built around 1435 from those days of the Middle Ages and is still preserved today. Located on the Jümme, you can see it coming from the west from a distance. Recently again in the possession of the public authorities and restored by them, it is a real highlight in the region that is worth visiting. However, be careful when walking around the ramparts! Numerous crows fend off hundreds of unwanted guests with their excrement from all - I say - pipes. Seen in this light, there is still sharp shooting in the castle today.

Directly around the fortress, however, you are protected from the black-feathered artillery.

You can find a lot of information about the castle on Wikipedia:

      de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Stickhausen

Opposite the castle is a small cafe on the Jümme with garden places on the river, where you can also have a coffee or a cold drink or two.

There isn't much left. The thick tower and a French cannon.
