The peculiarity of this station is the imperial court pavilion (apart from the exits to the platforms), which Otto Wagner designed as a waiting room for the emperor and his entourage, although it was not intended in the original plans of the city railway's Viennese line. The imperial waiting rooms in the large train stations of the double monarchy were probably the model. It is currently (2018) used by the Wien Museum as an exhibition space.open Saturday and Sunday

“The construction of the Stadtbahn was the largest infrastructure project in Vienna around 1900. Otto Wagner (1841-1918), the pioneer of modern architecture, was entrusted with the artistic design of the new means of mass transport, which still characterizes the cityscape today. The erection of a separate pavilion for Emperor Franz Joseph and the "All Highest Court" at the Hietzing station goes back to his initiative was.The fact that the emperor only used the pavilion twice for a ride on the Stadtbahn was secondary for Otto Wagner: the focus was on the imperial splendor that lay on the small building and was intended to help modern architecture achieve a breakthrough.”

At first glance it may seem a little inconspicuous, but it is an object that shapes the cityscape of VIENNA (OTTO WAGNER)
