Eight kilometers south of the thermal town of Cauterets in Hautes-Pyrénées, in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, hides a protected piece of nature that attracted romantics like Victor Hugo, George Sand and Charles Baudelaire in the 19th century: the Pont d’Espagne. A wild and romantic mountain idyll at 1,496 m above sea level, which was only preserved through the commitment of conservationists.

Hiking
The hiking trail (GR10) is well signposted. After a few minutes of walking away from Cauterets, I was fully immersed by the sounds of waterfalls and almost overpowered by high tones throughout until I reach Pont d'Espagne where you can catch a breath and visit the information office for further exploration to Lac de Gaube.
