The Algunder Waalweg, which runs above the village of the same name in the Burggrafenamt, has beautiful viewpoints that allow you to enjoy the view over the entire Adige Valley. It runs on a length of 6 km from Ober- and Mitterplars on Algund to Gratsch. For the most part, the path has been preserved in its original condition.

  • The Algunder Waalweg is indeed very well laid out and also very good to commit, however, one should set foot on early in the morning or late in the afternoon, as otherwise crushing the there promenierenden crowds.

  • Beautiful tour with many beautiful stretches and beautiful views and far views of Merano and Bolzano. Due to the change of sunny and shady sections and several benches along the way, the path is almost always accessible.

The Waal itself appears after crossing the road to Oberplars. The soothing lapping will accompany us for a while.

  • Also a very nice and level path, which is about 8 km long and can be easily combined with a walk on the Tappeiner Promenade. You reach the starting point by bus.

  • "Waale" are old, man-made watercourses, which in some areas are still used to irrigate fields and meadows. A narrow footbridge, the so-called Waalweg, was built for the maintenance and care of a Waal. With the construction of the artificial watercourses, a new job profile was created, the so-called Waaler. He ensured that the Waal was functioning properly and that the extremely valuable resource was distributed fairly.
Here on the Algunder Waalweg you can see the water reservoirs for irrigating the vineyards.

  • The Algunder Waalweg is a two-part hiking trail, 5 to 6 kilometers long, which leads along the Waal (water channel). The Waalweg runs almost flat. This makes it ideal for older people or families with children. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of Algund and the entire Meraner Land.
