The municipality of Ybbs an der Donau in the district of Melk lies at the transition from Strudengau and Nibelungengau. Thanks to its enchanting landscapes by the water and numerous events and sights, Ybbs is considered a tranquil excursion and holiday idyll. Families with children in particular feel that they are in good hands in the friendly town in Lower Austria's Mostviertel: Comfortable accommodation and restaurateurs with a heart are happy to look after the well-being of their big and small guests.

The Danube town of Ybbs played a special role throughout its history. As the intersection of important trade routes with the Danube, its existence is primarily based on its economic importance. The city's location on the bank of Austria's most important river, the Danube, represents another special feature in its historical course.

Ybbs has retained its attractive location on the water without the accompanying roads that are usual elsewhere. The Donaulände, which was already developed as part of the redevelopment of the old town, forms a local recreation area in the city center with a unique quality. With this special feature, the romantic Ybbs was the last Austrian town to have unhindered access to the Danube. All other cities are separated from the river either by roads or by flood protection structures.

Beautiful small town. Unfortunately, the city center is not very busy. Lots of empty shops. Still absolutely worth seeing, because many historical buildings can be admired and there are still some places to stop for a break!
