The Nymphenburg Canal is an artificial waterway in Munich that was built between 1701 and 1703 under Elector Max Emanuel as a form of forced labor. It continues the optical axis of the palace, the line of sight from Nymphenburg Palace to the east towards the city center.

The Great Cascade in the Nymphenburg Palace Park goes back to a plan by Joseph Effner and was designed by François de Cuvilliés the Elder. Ä. formerly covered with Tegernsee marble, which had to be replaced by reddish and gray Veronese marble after it was destroyed in the war in 1945. The two 1800 and 1400 square meter fountain basins, which flow noisily into each other via two or six cascades, in the middle with a smaller oval basin in between, were surrounded by Cuvilliés with the river god figure of the Danube from a former fountain (on the left the center) and the source nymph Isar (centre right) by Giuseppe Volpini (1717), followed by Charles Debut's Flora (1725) and Volpini's Hercules (1721). Later, other figures by Roman Anton Boos were added.

Where the canal is led into the park and culminates at the Grand Cascade, the "Pasinger Tor" is the park entrance to the west.
