It may have been founded by the Amandus Monastery in Elno, today's Saint-Amand-les-Eaux. Charles the Simple confirmed this monastery in the year 899 possessions on the Rhine. Monasteries such as the parish church share the patronal feast of St. Amandus of Maastricht. In 1156 there was a settlement for the ownership of the parish church between the monastery Knechtsteden and the Cologne monastery St. Gereon.

If you walk around the church, you will find a small skull to the left of the entrance. According to tradition, probably in memory of a drowned man who carried a will with him - the "Dode Man". He had decreed that a church should be built over his grave.
Definitely an unusual sight...
