The church was built in Neogothic style in 1845, and has since shaped the cityscape from afar.

A yellow brick shell on a cruciform ground plan with a semi-circular chancel in the west and a cantilevered tower (48 m) in the east. Baurat Buttel himself chose the "Byzantine" or round arch style for this elaborate new church building, which is characterized by classic-antique design language, Schinkel's practicality and the use of neo-Romanesque decorative elements.

The city church Fürstenberg, built in 1845 by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel in neo-Gothic style, is an imposing structure. Striking meeting place in Fürstenberg. Because of the cityscape, the convention of alignment has been changed. The choir does not stand, as usual, in the east, but in the west.
