At the end of Altmühlstrasse is the Altmühltor; like the Donautor, it was built in the middle of the 13th century. There was a spacious gatehouse in front of the gate, which was demolished in May 1875. This created a spacious space between the gate and the former bridge over the Altmühl.

On the south side of the Altmühltor is the Kelheim city coat of arms, as it was used from 1410 to 1809. In its lower half, the coat of arms bears vine branches with blue grapes. After all, in the late Middle Ages, Kelheim was considered one of the most important growing areas for Baier wine, before cultivation came to a standstill due to a Thirty Years War and climate change.
