The tour leads through the Mittertor back to the old town. The defense tower, built in the 14th century, originally had a gable roof. There was a vestibule on the outside until 1869. A mural was attached to the inside of the city gate in 1904, depicting the capture of the Austrian occupation by master butcher Kraus on December 12, 1705. The original of the painting is in the National Museum in Munich.

Hiking

The Mittertor is the western city gate of the former Kelheim city fortifications from the 13th century.
The square gate tower received the pointed arch openings and the tent roof during the renovation in 1809. On the side of the gate that faces the city there is a fresco with the master butcher Matthias Kraus, who made history with his rebellion against the Austrian occupation in Kelheim.
