The Twisk station building was in use from 1887 to 1935, when the tram carried passengers. Since 1996, the station and the track have been restored and the museum steam tram runs there.

The Twisk station building is one of eight (of the original ten) still existing station buildings on the Hoorn-Medemblik local railway line. It is a good example of a rural station, as there have been hundreds in the Netherlands. The characteristic building consists of two parts; a service house for the semi-tech chef and his family and a chief's office with waiting area for the travelers. In addition, there is a detached retirade building.

All station buildings between Hoorn and Medemblik were completed immediately with the local railway in 1887. They were built to a design by architect Krieger for the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij. The stations remained in use until the end of passenger transport in 1935. Today the buildings in Zwaag, Wognum-Nibbixwoud, Benningbroek-Sijbekarspel, Abbekerk-Lambertschaag, Twisk, Opperdoes and Medemblik are still present. In Zwaagijk there is still a guard's house at the level crossing. The Westerblokker stop building and the Midwoud-Oostwoud station building were demolished.

The station buildings in Wognum-Nibbixwoud, Twisk, Opperdoes and Medemblik have been acquired by the Museum Steam Tram and are under (provincial) monument protection. During a modernization in 1924, the stations received a kitchen extension and a wooden goods shed. In this condition, the station was restored in 1996 as part of a learning / working project and put back into use by the Museum Steam Tram as a functioning station with a home.
The buildings have a waiting room, an office for the on-duty semi-manager, a warehouse for freight transport and a retirade (toilet block). Each station has its own characteristics. The painting of each waiting room varies from wood imitation to various shades of green and thus represents a certain period in the history of the building. The platforms, sidings and further layout of the station area have been restored to the state of 1926. The sidings along the unloading road have been reconstructed at Twisk, as was the case in earlier years for the supply and removal of tools, machines, livestock and agricultural products. The Twisk station building is equipped with a government letterbox, which was regularly emptied by the postconductors traveling on the trams. Today that still happens with the Museum steam tram!

The "Authentic Mile" local railway is located between the stations Twisk and Opperdoes. The first stretch of railway line of the Museum steam tram Hoorn-Medemblik has been decorated in detail, as it looked 100 years ago. Both stations are connected by a working telegraph connection which, in addition to exchanging messages, is also used to (unlock) the lock on the switch to the side track in Twisk. This arrangement dates from the time that Twisk was not an independent station but a stop on the free track, so that the responsibility for operating the siding was with the station master at Opperdoes.

The railway line from Medemblik to Hoorn, opened in 1887, is unique because it has been preserved in its original state, complete with structures such as bridges and station buildings. Only a few stations have disappeared over time; of the ten in total, eight still exist.
