The war memorial on the corner of Breedstraat and Nieuwstraat in the North Holland city of Medemblik was unveiled on August 24, 1940. This makes it one of the first monuments built in the Netherlands in memory of the Second World War. The monument was then unveiled in memory of the stay of a garrison of soldiers in the city during 1939 and 1940. After the war, it became a monument in memory of the Dutch soldiers who died during the Second World War. (Wikipedia)
