Road cycling
Lely pumping station is an electrically driven pumping station from 1930 that was and is used to dry and keep the Wieringermeer dry. The pumping station is named after Cornelis Lely, initiator of the Zuiderzee Works and is located just north of Medemblik.
The pumping station was designed by Dirk Roosenburg. At the insistence of Samuel de Clercq, chairman of the Association of Dutch Architects, the Hague architect D. Roosenburg (1887-1962) was commissioned in 1928 to construct a special and appealing building for an electrically driven pumping station.
