Puerto de la Cruz is a city on the north coast of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands belonging to Spain. It is known for its dark volcanic sand beaches and the extensive Loro Parque Zoo, which is located in the west of the city. Along the coast is the Lago Martiánez outdoor pool, which was designed by the architect César Manrique. In the old port there is a 17th century customs house and the Batería de Santa Bárbara, a historic fortification from the 18th century.
