The Obermaubach dam in Obermaubach in the municipality of Kreuzau in the district of Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, was built in 1933 and 1934 and serves as a compensating reservoir for the Rur inflows of varying strength and to control the most even possible discharge of water into the Rur. The reservoir is located in the area of the municipality of Kreuzau as well as in the upper area in the area of the municipalities of Hürtgenwald and Nideggen.

In my opinion, the Obermaubach reservoir has something Mediterranean about it, and that in the middle of the Rureifel. A great local recreation area with cycling and hiking trails, restaurants and lots of nature!

The Obermaubuch reservoir is fed by the Rur and then releases the water evenly back into the Rur. This was partly important to the industry based in the space beyond. It was built in the 1930s and holds 1.65 million cubic meters of water.
Unfortunately, you can't really go around it by bike, since on the Obermaubach side only hiking trails lead through the forest and can only be used with mountain bikes.
