Hiking

Hallig are small marshland islands in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. They are only a few meters above sea level. The low-lying areas have land under during storm surges. Only the artificially raised hills, the terps with the houses on them, usually remain above the water. Hallig Hooge 578 ha in size, the second largest Hallig, stone dike against flooding, including the uninhabited Hallig Norderoog. There are 10 terps: Backenswarft, Hanswarft, Ipkenswarft, Kirchwarft, Lorenzwarft, Mitteltritt, Oeckelützwarft, Ocksenwarft, Volkertswarft and Westerwarft.
