The St. George Chapel was built at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. It is also known as the "Schimmelkapelle", which indicates a legend about a horse that was captured (held) in the chapel (sueddeutsche.de/muenchen/starnberg/sz-serie-mythen-und -says-episode-2-the-terrible-death-of-the-white-horse-1.3321352). The chapel is located about one kilometer south of Ascholding on a hill with an excellent mountain view.

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of St. George, to whom this chapel was consecrated, but the veneration of his person goes back a long way to early Christianity. A martyr who is equated with George is said to have lived in the third century.
On the other hand, the legend of St. George slaying the dragon is well known and widespread; he is usually depicted - in paintings or as a statue - as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback.
The day of remembrance of the very popular George - he is among other things the patron saint of the English Kingdom - in the saints calendar is on April 23rd.
