It is the location of the church of the new parish on the hill called "Bierghes" (= mountain, height) which explains the name of the parish and therefore of the village.
The old Saints-Pierre-et-Martin church is perched on a hill on the edge of the main road from Hal to Enghien.

The Church of St. Peter and St. Martin was built in 1792 with stones from an earlier church from the 18th century. In 1987, the presbytery, with an oven, workshop and fencing wall, was protected as a monument. The entire area surrounding the church, which also includes the cemetery, the rectory and a farm, was also protected as a site.
