The monastery of Heikruis, located between Halle and Edingen, was founded by the lords of the manor of Risoir, the Huysman d'Annecroix family, who wished to ensure education and education on their domains for the poor little girls of the village. In 1833, Miss Thérèse Josephine Elisabeth Ghislaine Huysman d'Annecroix addressed the Reverend Sir Lambertz, director of the Ursuline convent in Tildonk, to ask some religious who were able to teach the poor little girls of the Heikruis parish. On November 4, 1833, the religious started a school for these girls. In a few weeks there were 75 students in the school and the number of interns amounted to 12 students. Afterwards, the building served as a home for convalescent Ursuline sisters.
About 10 years later (1990) all the sisters from Heikruis left for other institutions and a start was made on the renovation of the boarding school, which has now become the non-profit organization Mater Dei Woonzorgcentrum.
