Top cycling routes to St. Petri Church Westerstede

Tips

  • I was impressed from the very first moment by the imposing Lutheran St. Petri Church from the early 12th century with its impressive tower. In fact, the Romanesque-Gothic style of the church that faces the central market square is a "new building" from 1232. This gem was built on the foundations of its predecessor, which is around 110 years older. Of course there are more details on Wikipedia (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Petri-Kirche_(Westerstede)). But the legends given by Johnny are also definitely interesting, which, see Johnny, can be found here:

  • The St. - Petri - Church is located in the center of Westerstede.
With its striking 48 meter high tower, it is not only the oldest building, but also the landmark of the city of Westerstede and the largest church in the Ammerland. In this almost 900-year-old church (1123), contemporary witnesses from the various periods have been preserved in their forms: The organ of St. Peter's Church was built in 1971, but the organ case originally dates from 1876. It is a historically built baroque organ with a North German sound concept. The baptismal font dates back to 1648 and was carved from a single tree trunk. You can find a brochure with more information in the church or get it from the tourist information office -Information Westerstede during their opening hours, Am Markt 2.
