historyThe village is mentioned for the first time as New Engeland in the Vogteikarte from 1793. A Johann Abot with his house was also marked here, who is said to have originally been an English officer and who later changed his name to Alberts. There are two different traditional memories about this. In another interpretation, it was assumed that New England was named after the settlement of the narrow country on the edge of the former swamp and raised bog area.
