The official pond within the park was created around 1600 for fish farming. From 1914 to 1935, the once swampy area was further expanded. The design of the bank areas with beautiful shrubs on the streams near the diesel power plant was made in 1954 for the exhibition "Green and Blossoming on the Spree".
