Dortmund's only surviving gothic-style aristocratic house, the Wenge House in Dormund-Lanstrop, is one of the city's jewels. The two-storey building with stair gables dates from the 16th century. The Wenge families belonged to the old knightly families of the County of Mark and were first documented in 1300. The foundations and parts of the enclosure of House Wenge probably date from this time.
