the 'big road from Brunssum to Koningsbosch was built by the Netherlands when the Zelfkant became Dutch after the war. When the Zelfkant became German again, the road remained Dutch, a short connection from Brunssum to the north. All crossings were grade separated so that you could not 'accidentally' enter Germany (or vice versa). Later the viaducts turned out to be too low for high trucks. The Dutch road was then lowered on the spot (under each viaduct).
Later still, when the borders 'disappeared', connections were also made in the Zelkant.
