"The small Jasmunder Bodden belongs to the Northern Rügen Bodden and is a marginal waters of the southern Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within the island of Rügen. It is about seven kilometers long and a maximum of five kilometers wide (sometimes much narrower) , 4 square kilometers.

The water surface is bounded on the north by the peninsula Jasmund, in the east by the spit of the Schmale Heide and in the south by the main part of the island Rügen, the Muttland. In the northwest exists at Lietzow about a drain with lock a connection to the Great Jasmunder Bodden. The separation of the two Bodden took place only in 1869 by the embankment of a dam (Federal Highway 96 and railway line Stralsund-Sassnitz). By this dam the Bodden became more or less a lake. The coast of the Bodden is relatively strongly structured, so in the southwest the Pulitz peninsula towers far into the Bodden. This is designated as a nature reserve Pulitz.

The water of the small Jasmunder Bodden is hardly salty, as there is no direct connection to the Baltic Sea. The channel to the Great Jasmunder Bodden, which also has only a salt content of 0.6 to 0.7 percent, is not sufficient for a continuous salt entry. The Bodden is considered rich in fish. However, the quality of the water is bad due to the discharges of the treatment plant Bergen and the eutrophication has progressed considerably. "Source: Wikipedia
